WHY SUBFLOOR PREPARATION MATTERS
A GREAT FLOOR BEGINS BELOW.
The secret to a beautiful, long-lasting floor is what lies underneath.
Even the highest-quality flooring can fail if the subfloor isn't properly prepared. Uneven surfaces, movement and moisture can all affect the finished result.
At Judge Flooring, we assess every subfloor and recommend the right preparation to create a strong, smooth and reliable foundation.

CONCRETE SUBFLOORS
Professional priming and smoothing for a level finish.

TIMBER SUBFLOORS
Plywood preparation for a smooth, stable surface.
TIMBER SUBFLOOR PREPARATION
We prepare timber subfloors using 6mm flooring-grade plywood, securely fixed to create a smooth, stable and long-lasting base for your new floor.
A STRONG FOUNDATION.
A PERFECT FINISH.
ASSESS THE EXISTING FLOOR
We check the condition of the existing timber floor, ensuring it's sound, secure and suitable for preparation. Loose boards are secured and any issues addressed before work begins.
INSTALL FLOORING-GRADE PLYWOOD
We install 6mm SP101 flooring-grade plywood, securely fixed at approximately 100mm centres to provide a strong, stable foundation for your new flooring.
READY FOR YOUR NEW FLOOR
Once the plywood is securely fitted, we check the entire surface to ensure it's smooth, stable and ready for the next stage of installation.

CONCRETE SUBFLOOR PREPARATION
A SMOOTH SURFACE.
A BETTER RESULT.
We prepare concrete subfloors using professional primers and smoothing compounds, creating a smooth, stable surface ready for your chosen flooring.
CLEAN AND PRIME
We thoroughly clean and assess the concrete subfloor before applying a suitable primer to help the smoothing compound bond correctly.
APPLY SMOOTHING COMPOUND
We apply professional smoothing compound and distribute it evenly using a cam rake, creating a consistent surface ready for the final finishing stage.
READY FOR YOUR NEW FLOOR
A spiked roller helps release trapped air from the freshly applied compound. Once fully cured, the surface is checked before flooring installation begins.
